Synopsis

A MOTHER OF MAGIC! The JLA is beaten by the magic of Sindella's people, the Hidden Ones, and taken captive. Zatara and Zatanna are reunited with Sindella, who reveals that she is the one person born in her generation of Homo magus, whose brain possesses the "Medulla Jewel," the secret power source of the mystic city.   Meanwhile, a recuperated Green Arrow and Red Tornado, research the magical race through the JLA computers and discover that Homo sapiens and Homo magus of opposite sexes experience a mutual attraction upon first meeting. Joining their comrades in Turkey, they reveal that the warriors the escaped Justice League members had been battling are not the true Hidden Ones after all, since true members of Homo magus cannot battle humans face-to-face without being romantically smitten.   As this happens, Sindella realizes that Zatanna will be bound to remain enslaved to the Hidden Ones, just as she did, because her daughter also holds the Medulla Jewel. In order to prevent this from happening, Sindella uses the last of her power to shatter her Medulla Jewel, destroying the army of the Hidden Ones that is fighting the Justice League and taking her own life in the process.
